Your Guide To Getting Rid of Acne With Tea

Skin Acne by Tea

Acne is a pesky thing that pretty much everyone must deal with, however, not everyone has to treat it using chemicals and ingredients that dry out your skin. Using premium loose-leaf teas from Dollar Tea Club, it’s possible to banish your acne the all-natural way!

Black Tea

“True” teas are a great way to dry out acne and pimples that have unexpectedly appeared on your skin. Because tea is a natural astringent, it dries up and tightens your skin. It’s important to dry up the pimple because that’s what gets rid of all the nasty stuff inside of it (and that’s also what salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide do in traditional acne treatments!). Tightening the skin is ideal because it helps minimize the size of your pores which aids in a preventing dirt and grime from entering your skin and causing acne.

Topical Application

Black tea can be used externally on the skin to treat acne as a spot treatment. In only a couple of steps, you’ll have your very own DIY treatment.

  1. Steep 1 tablespoon of loose-leaf Assam Organic in warm water.
  2. Soak a cotton ball (or use a tea bag with the leaves) and apply to the areas of your face you’d like to treat. Apply several times before bed and leave on overnight.

It’s honestly that easy! Black tea also contains tons of antioxidants so your skin will not only dry out, but also be soothed at the same time. You’ll see results in no time!

Green Tea

It turns out that just drinking green tea can help reduce your acne or at the very least, make it less severe. Due to its high antioxidant content, green tea reduces inflammation and fights bacteria that is damaging your skin cells. Green tea also increases your sebum production, which can help you in reducing your acne. Keep in mind, though, simply drinking a cup or two of green tea per day isn’t going to magically cast away all your acne. Topical treatments are your best bet for a fast treatment, however, drinking green tea can help you from the inside and you’ll see a difference and hopefully feel better in the long-term. If you have cystic acne or severe breakouts, it’s always recommended that you see a dermatologist to find the right solution for you.

Topical Application

Just like the black tea recipe, you can also use green tea directly on your skin in only a couple steps.

  1. Steep 1 tablespoon loose-leaf Sencha Organic.
  2. Soak a cotton ball or fill a spray bottle and apply directly to spot or spray over entire face.
  3. Let dry and rinse off with water.

Green Tea Face Mask

Another effective way to treat your acne is to use a nourishing face mask. This is a great method because it contains multiple ingredients that will do varying things for your skin, such as moisturize and soften, while treating the acne. One example for a recipe is this one using tea tree oil and grapeseed oil:

Grind 1 tablespoon of Sencha Organic into a powder.

  1. Combine Sencha Organic power and 3 drops of tea tree oil. Add grapeseed oil (or Aloe Vera gel) until mixture forms a paste.
  2. Massage paste onto areas of skin that need treatment and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat face dry.

There are so many different variations of green tea face masks that use lemon, ginger, honey, and other delicious ingredients that you have at home. If you try one and it doesn’t work for you, we recommend that you try a couple of other variations until you’re able to find a combination that works best for you. Everyone’s skin is different and reacts differently to certain ingredients, so you’re not necessarily going to find a holy grail recipe the first time around!

Rooibos Tea

While Rooibos is a relative newcomer to the modern world of tea, it’s a front-runner when it comes to treating acne. Rooibos contains high levels of nothofagin, aspalathin, and superoxide dismutase. These are antioxidants that provide protection against harmful free radicals and help prevent damage to your skin from reactive oxygen species.

Topical Application

Like both black tea and green tea, Rooibos can be used directly on the skin where there is acne or breakouts.

  1. Steep 1 tablespoon loose-leaf Berry Bananza.
  2. Soak a cotton ball (or use a tea bag and use the tea leaves) and apply directly to areas of the skin that need treatment.

Rooibos Toner

Another way that you can apply Rooibos loose-leaf tea to your face is by using a facial toner! It’s super easy to make and is great because it doesn’t need to be rinsed off, so it can work its magic while you’re sleeping! All you need is a loose-leaf Rooibos tea of your choice, coconut water, and apply cider vinegar.

  1. Steep 2 tablespoons of loose-leaf What the Duck!? for 15 minutes.
  2. Combine 2 tablespoons of coconut water and 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a small bottle or mason jar.
  3. Add your strained tea to the jar until it is full.
  4. Apply using a cotton pad or spray onto face before bed.

That’s it! Three simple ingredients and you’ll have a homemade, all-natural toner that will help you in your mission to conquer your acne.
